Common Options for High Volume Water Recovery Systems

Western Water Products provides numerous options to go along with its water recovery systems.   Option recommendations vary from application to application.  For low volume systems typically associated with pressure wash applications some of the more popular options are described below.

Hopper Bottom Pit In larger volume applications our uniquely designed Poly-Pit complements a trench drain and other water collection systems and is used as a primary dirt settling stage where a sludge pump can be located to remove dirt and other sludge from the water stream.  Measuring 36" x 36" x 54" deep the pit is provided with a 3" deep x 3" wide lip around the circumference to support both a Filter/Screen Basket and Pit Grating.   The bottom 18" slopes toward the center providing a hopper bottom shape. This shape allows dirt to settle to the bottom where an Independent Sludge Pump is located and is timed to come on periodically to remove sludge built-up to an Above Ground Mud/Oil Hopper.

Sand Trap:  Poly sand traps can be provided for location in the center of the wash pad for initial settling of dirt prior to the water transferring to another pit(s) or tank(s).  Because of their small size, Sand Traps must be manually inspected and cleaned on a regular basis.

Pit Grating or Solid Covers:  Grating and covers can be  provided for use with the Hopper Bottom Pit, Sand Trap or other types of pits and clarifiers.  Please provide Western Water Products with exact dimensions of the area to be covered and the weight of objects which will travel across the grating and covers.

Under Grate Filter/Screen Basket:  When either the Sand Trap or Hopper Bottom Pit is located in the center of the wash pad, it is desirable to have a removable Under Grate Filter/Screen Basket to strain out items which might interfere with the operation of the water recovery system.  Consult WaterCycle for recommendations.

Independent Sludge Removal System:  One of the most highly recommended options with all WaterCycle water recovery systems is an Independent Sludge Removal System.  This system is designed to be located at the bottom of the Hopper Bottom Pit or in the first stage of a multi-compartment clarifier where most of the sediment tends to drop out of suspension.  With this system a heavy duty Sludge Pump is positioned where the sludge will accumulate.  A separate Timing Control Panel turns on periodically to force the pump to pump accumulated sludge up above ground to a Mud/Oil Hopper.  There the water is siphoned back to the pit and the sludge retained in the Mud/Oil Hopper for easy disposal.

Pretreatment Tanks:  WaterCycle recommends the use of Pretreatment Tanks for applications where there is inadequate underground water storage (sand trap size), or when, by the nature of the water, additional treatment of some type is required.  Pretreatment tanks are provided with an internal Cone Bottom to facilitate sludge removal through a periodic fast flush via a motorized electro-mechanical Purge Valve.

Tank and Pit Ozonation Systems:  Occasionally, because of the nature of the water quality or other factors, it becomes necessary to provide additional Aeration/Ozonation as a sanitizer/deodorizer.  Ozone is dispersed through the water to be treated in a manner akin to Diffused Air Floatation and has been effectively used for years as a highly effective sanitizer and odor controller to eliminate or reduce the requirement for chemicals to perform these functions.

Redundant Grass/Debris Strainer Systems:  Grass and other small floating debris are often common in golf course washes, but they can just as effectively be found in street sweeper applications and rental yard applications.  Grass is one of the most difficult items to strain from the water because it can be chopped so finely that it passes through most single strainers.  WaterCycle has effectively solved this problem with a series of four strainers--two in the pit and two in an above ground Grass Strainer System.

Automatic Purge Valves:  SC series water recovery systems come with the console equipped with Automatic Timed Purge Valves.  These valves rotate at least one time every two hours to purge sedimentation from the tanks and also to rotate cleaned wash water which has recently been ozonated, back to the pit from where it originated.  Pretreatment Tanks, AGOS and AGOR systems can be modified to accept this option.

High Level Pressurized Discharge to Sewer:  At times due to conditions beyond control the pit(s) may accumulate more water than the can hold (rain water, too much fresh water rinse, someone accidentally leaves a fresh water hose bib on, etc.).  For these conditions WaterCycle can provide a Pressurized Discharge to Sewer option.  This option works off a high level float in the pit or clarifiers and then pumps the water to somewhere else.

Water Holding or Storage Tanks:  Water  Holding and Storage Tanks can be provided in almost any capacity or for almost any reason.

Repressurization Systems:  Many applications require more than a pressure washer to clean vehicles.  For this reason, Additional Storage tanks with Repressurization Pumping Stands are provided.   Applications include:

Chemical Metering Systems:  At times a chemical flocculate, deodorizes, etc., may be required by you application.  Consult WaterCycle if you feel strongly about the need for this device.  Like the pH/ORP Balancing System, it has been our experience that they are seldom if ever required

pH/ORP Balancing Systems:  Because of our unique method of constant aeration/ozonation and continuous recirculation of water back to the pit, this option is seldom required.  Since these controls represent a considerable cost to the end user, WaterCycle normally recommends that it be added to the system at a later date only if it is required and after the system has been tested without it.
